Okay so we stumbled upon this article and it peeked our curiousity so we checked it out and we agree to disagree with most of it. They must be thinking people don't excerise or that training is a headache.
The top ten high maintenance dogs in alphabetical order based on this article;
Austrailian Shepherd: Seriously?! Okay we get you have to train them or they get bored and can be destructive but, how hard is it to train your dog to sit, down, shake and roll over. It can't be that hard because, our humans have managed to do that and more with us and well I (Missy) am very stubborn and independent. We also get you have to brush the dog often and you could take it to the groomer a couple times a year but, that goes for most breeds out there including me. Exercise is a must for every breed of dog out there period folks!
Border Collie: What is it with these herding breeds? Yes they are high strung but, if you, yourself exercise and we mean actually run a mile or so at least once a day and can throw a ball a couple of times a day these dogs shouldn't be a problem. Work their bodies and their minds people and you will be good to go.
Brussels Griffon: Okay our human kinda agrees with this one only because, she works on one that is well called the devil dog. They are very clingy to one person and one person only so you as their human must socialize them early and train them. If you do that then you shouldn't have too many problems. Expose your dog to multiple situations, like grooming, training, other dogs, other animals in general and lots and lots of people. You should be okay then.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: Whoa that was a mouth full anyways. We know one personally yes they are underfoot but, aren't all small dogs? Grooming wise they aren't much of a hassle nor is it anymore difficult to train them over any other small dog. All small dogs are clingy. If you don't want a clingy dog then don't get a small dog. I mean Grandma's chihuahua is clingy and will dance for attention...we find that to be higher maintenance then the Cavalier.
Cocker Spaniel: Okay they are high maintenance no questions asked. They have health problems and have to be groomed constantly. So we will agree with this one 100% of the way.
German Shorthaired Pointer: We must be missing something or spoiled rotten because, again we were trained and get lots of exercise. Really that is all this breed needs. They are hunting dogs that are bred to point and retrieve. Play a couple of games with them and they should be good to go. Socialize and walk them often and you will have an amazing companion.
Jack Russell Terrier (Parson Russell Terrier): Okay these guys we live with. They aren't high maintenance at all, in our opinion. They bark and growl but, that's the terrier in them. Our Aunt doesn't even walk hers, which is sad in our opinion because, walks are a necessity in our opinion. They just run around the house and wear themselves out.
Poodle: Okay this one is right. Poodles need to be trained and need to be groomed and all sorts of fun stuff. You have to put effort into them in order to get what you want out of them. You have to brush them at home daily and then pay someone to groom them professionally so we can see how they are high maintenance.
Labrador Retriever: Okay folks we will go back to do not own a dog if you do not plan on playing with it, training it or exercising it. Any dog can be a Marley if you neglect to give them what they need in life which is some human interaction, exercise and some serious training.
Yorkshire Terrier: Okay you do have to groom these little guys a lot, even when they are shaved short their hair does grow back. Then again Mom's theory is if you can brush your own hair once a day then you should be able to brush your dog's hair once a day as well.
So there you guys have it, the amazing top ten list of high maintenance dogs. We don't think exercise and training should be considered high maintenance qualities because, all dogs needs that in order to be happy, well developed dogs in our opinion. What do we know we are just dogs after all.
